Over 300 immigrants built these marvels
in the Allegheny Mountains! Twin tunnels,
the Allegheny and Gallitzin Tunnels,
are the highest and longest on what
once was the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Because of their integral role in the
transportation system, these tunnels
were guarded during times of war.
Gallitzin Tunnels Park also offers
a museum and theatre featuring railroad
videos, exhibits, and souvenirs for
adults and children, as well as a restored
1942 PRR Caboose. This site is an ideal
location for train photography. A knowledgeable,
costumed docent will answer your questions
in the Caboose, historians are on duty,
and special age-appropriate programs
are available with prearrangement. School
groups are welcome!
